Show and Obedience Training
We do all of our show and obedience training ourselves. We firmly believe in being involved with our dogs' careers, and this is an aspect that we can easily become involved in. All of our finished dogs have been owner-handled to their Breed Championships.
We have also participated in Obedience Competitions, although we find them less fun than Conformation and Field Trials. In addition to Henna we also had Juno, a Newfoundland (Redwood's Room For One More CD CDC TDI) who earned her Companion Dog title.
Several of our dogs have earned their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) award. This seems fitting, as Trish was a certified CGC Evaluator for many years.
After one failed attempt at training our own dog for field events, we got smart and found a professional trainer. We are proud to say that Ray Dohse of Eshod Farms is the exclusive trainer for our dogs. Ray has a way with dogs that brings out the best in each of them. He is able to see each dog as an individual and adjust his training style to fit their needs. It is obvious that our dogs truly love Ray, and literally jump for joy when we bring them to his place for training.
Ray also believes that owners should be involved with their dog's careers and has helped us become very involved in the Field Trial venue. Wayne has handled our dogs in Open and Amateur stakes from the very beginning. He and Ray are the primary handlers of our dogs. Wayne completed Tzeitel's Amateur Field Champion title in her first season as a "broke" Gun Dog, starting her winning streak the end of December 2004 and finishing her title the beginning of March 2005. Additionally, Ray has encouraged Wayne to handle some other dogs on an amateur, "pro bono" basis. Wayne regularly handles some of Ray's adult dogs in Amateur stakes, and also handles dogs for friends who are unable to get to trials. Of course, Wayne is always happy to handle a puppy/dog that has been purchased from us!
